A stunning, shareable appetizer board featuring baked feta, hot honey, crispy fried onions, and all the Greek fixings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Feta:
  • 1 (8-ounce) block feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • For the Crispy Fried Onions:
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the Hot Honey:
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1–2 tablespoons hot sauce (like Frank's RedHot)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • For Serving:
  • Crackers or pita chips
  • Fresh vegetables (cucumber, cherry tomatoes, olives)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Place the feta block in a small oven-safe dish or on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with oregano and pepper.
  2. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until feta is soft and slightly golden around edges.
  3. Meanwhile, soak sliced onions in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
  4. In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Dredge the onion slices in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess. Fry in batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  7. For the hot honey: in a small saucepan, combine honey and hot sauce. Warm over low heat, whisking until well combined. Stir in butter until melted.
  8. Assemble the board: Place the baked feta in the center of a serving platter. Arrange crackers, vegetables, and crispy onions around it. Drizzle the hot honey over the feta and onions. Garnish with fresh herbs. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a milder version, reduce the hot sauce or serve it on the side. You can also use a Greek seasoning blend instead of oregano for a different flavor profile.
