Hamburger Hash Brown Casserole

A hearty casserole with ground beef, hash browns, and cheese, perfect for a comforting dinner.

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 bag (30 oz) frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is tender. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine thawed hash browns, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, 1 cup of cheddar cheese, milk, salt, and pepper. Stir in the cooked beef mixture.
  4. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining 1 cup cheddar cheese.
  5. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes, until bubbly and cheese is melted and lightly browned.
  6. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use reduced-fat soup and sour cream, and opt for low-fat cheese.
